Prepare for ~ 15 minutes of paperwork so we can properly address your health status. You may download our initial paperwork online to save time.

Doctor Consultation:

A Chiropractic Assistant will go over your case history and you will then consult with Dr. Hickel about your health and Chiropractic

Examination:

Doctor Hickel will examine your spine and nervous system by utilizing state-of-the-art examination procedures. To assist the Doctor in the examination, a number of diagnostic tools may be used in order to best understand the health of your spine. Some of these tools include, limited to X-Ray, Infrared Thermography and Computerized Posture analysis.After thorough analysis and investigation, we will report and show you what we have found, and inform you if and how we can help you. Most often the cause of dis-ease in the body is a vertebral subluxation (blockage of the normal neural pathways). The Chiropractor’s most common course of action is the adjustment, a technique utilized to restore the normal flow of neural pathways.

What is chiropractic

Chiropractic is a natural method of health care with the proven ability to relieve back pain, increase vitality, and promote well-being. For over a century, doctors of chiropractic have successfully helped millions of individuals recover from spine-related health problems. As a result, chiropractic has earned its place as the largest drugless and non-surgical health care profession in the United States.

How does chiropractic work?

The human body possesses a natural ability to restore itself. This ability depends on a healthy nervous system. Life’s events such as automobile accidents, sports injuries, repetitive work, and home stress are just some of the factors that can overwhelm the body’s ability to adapt. The joints of the spine ‘lock up’ when these sorts of events occur, limiting range of motion. Spinal joint restriction and/or misalignment results in irritation and/or pressure at the spinal nerve.

Chiropractic care can correct these structural distortions, known as subluxations, restoring the body to its optimal form and function. Local symptoms of subluxations may include pain, tenderness, swelling, tingling, numbness, or spasm around the joints of the spine, back, and neck. Many times these sensations extend further into the shoulders and arms, around the rib cage, or into the hips and down the legs. Subluxations can even lead to headaches, stomach and digestive problems, and loss of overall health.

Impaired nerve coordination causes the whole body to suffer. Vital instructions flow between the brain and the body by way of spinal nerves. These instructions inform and direct the body as to when, where, and how it needs to heal itself. By irritating nerves, subluxations interfere with the essential brain/body exchange, thereby compromising the normal function of the body’s organs and tissues. Chiropractic care clears the path for the body to maintain its own health.

What is Spinal Decompression Therapy?

Spinal Decompression Therapy relieves back pain, leg pain, neck and arm pain without surgery by laying you on a specialized table that allows for customized treatment specific to your needs. This treatment essentially takes the problematic disc and cycles it through distraction (stretching) and relaxation phases creating an environment in the disc that allows it to heal itself quickly.

Decompression Therapy is done along with Chiropractic adjustment to not only treat affected areas of the spine causing you pain, but to also work to put the spine back in proper alignment and strengthen it to prevent herniated/degenerative discs from occurring. When the spine is in appropriate alignment your spinal discs have plenty of space and nutrients to remain healthy. When the spine gets out of alignment your vertebrae begin to press on your discs unevenly causing the discs to distort their shape or cutting off valuable nutrients which weaken the health and structure of the discs. These misalignments increase the body’s chances of suffering from herniated/slipped/degenerative discs and the pain associated with these conditions.

How does Decompression Therapy work?

To understand how Decompression Therapy works, you must know a little bit about how your back works. A herniated or bulging disc is basically a squished disc that is pressing against your spinal canal/nerves causing pain. Unfortunately, once the pain starts the damaged disc is already in need of more nutrients and oxygen than what it is able to receive through the diminished space between the vertebrae. Decompression Therapy basically allows an increase in healing nutrients and oxygen to flow into the damaged disc by creating minuscule space between the vertebrae and then releasing in a repeating pattern. The Decompression Therapy Technique allows the disc to heal rapidly and reform to its original shape, slipping back between the vertebrae, properly positioned and no longer putting pressure on your spinal nerves – ending your back pain.

Who can benefit from Decompression Therapy?

We have found that any back pain or neck pain caused by a bulging disc is a good candidate for Spinal Decompression Therapy. Sometimes people are just in pain and don’t know if it’s a herniated disc, slipped disc, spinal stenosis, sciatica, pinched nerves, or bulging disc. Are there any times when Decompression Therapy shouldn’t be used?

We usually use a different type of therapy on those that have severe osteoporosis, severe obesity, severe nerve damage, or pregnant women. There are also some types of back or neck surgery that is not recommended for Decompression Therapy. How often are treatments and how long do they last?

Decompression therapy is 15-30minutes long. However, on a visit to the clinic this therapy is usually accompanied by a chiropractic adjustment and additional therapies based on your individual situation. You can usually expect about 45 minutes for each clinic visit. The number of visits required each week and the total number of visits overall vary from case to case, but usually Spinal Decompression Therapy is conducted 2-3 times a week for 12-24 sessions.

How successful is Decompression Therapy?

Clinical research studies have shown that Decompression Therapy is successful over 8 out of 10 times. Much better than surgery’s success rate.

Can I still have Decompression Therapy even if I have had surgery, but I’m still in pain?

Most post-surgery patients can have Decompression Therapy.

Common Chiropractic Treatment

There are three main types of conditions that chiropractic care treats: musculoskeletal, non-musculoskeletal and injuries.

Injuries

Chiropractors treat all types of injuries and are trained to recognize the unique expectations of each type of injury. With auto injuries delayed symptoms can occur up in as much as weeks or months after the accident. In work related injuries, chiropractors address ergonomics and work station set-up. And in sports injuries, chiropractors often check for biomechanical and muscle imbalances. Common injuries treated include:

Musculoskeletal
